2022 - Global Game Jam (GGJ)

The prompt for the 2022 Global Game Jam was 'duality'. Together, our team of four ideated a game where players grow a town by placing one of two random tile options without creating too much Chaos. While village tiles expand grow the town and its population, they generate Chaos. Nature tiles however, while won't further the town, will reduce Chaos.

Below are some screenshots of the gameplay and menus. As the black-and-white game is about (re)building the world from The Void, I kept a minimal style with a large about of (void) space.

if we had more time, I would have like to include animations for the tiles, as well as some environmental elements such birds occasionally flying out the forest. Among other things, the user experience could be improved by giving a warning when Chaos is about to cause the game to be lost.

Once we had an idea of what to create, I sketched out the visuals I had in mind. After an initial style test, I created a couple initial tiles to set the tone before continuing on with the UI and rest of the tiles.
